Huda Takriti (b. 1990 in Syria, lives in Vienna) is an artist and a researcher currently pursuing a PhD in practice at the Academy of Fine Art in Vienna. She completed her master's studies at the TransArts department at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in 2020. She also completed her bachelor's degree at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Damascus, Syria, in 2012. Her work has been awarded several scholarships and prizes, including the Vordemberge-Gildewart Award (2022), the Kunsthalle Wien Prize (2020), and the Camargo Foundation Fellowship (2023), among others.
Takriti superimposes personal and national narratives in her video works and her image-text or text-text collages, aiming to spotlight gaps in historical and national memory. In her current research, Takriti is examining the notion of archival erasure relating to the (hi)stories of female freedom fighters from the Middle East in times of armed anti-colonial struggle. Questioning the construction and production of historical narratives, as well as the potential that contamination can carry as a way for surviving archival gaps. She completed her master's studies at the TransArts department at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in 2020. Ihr Masterstudium schloss sie 2020 an der TransArts-Abteilung der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien ab. Zudem schloss sie 2012 ihr Bachelorstudium an der Fakultät für Bildende Künste in Damaskus, Syrien, ab. Ihre Arbeiten wurden mit mehreren Stipendien und Preisen ausgezeichnet, u.a unter anderem mit dem Vordemberge-Gildewart-Preis (2022), dem Preis der Kunsthalle Wien (2020) und dem Camargo Foundation Fellowship (2023).
Takriti überlagert in ihren Videoarbeiten und ihren Bild-Text- oder Text-Text-Collagen persönliche und nationale Erzählungen und zielt darauf ab, Lücken im historischen und nationalen Gedächtnis aufzuzeigen. In ihrer aktuellen Forschung untersucht Takriti den Begriff der Archivlöschung im Zusammenhang mit den (Geschichts-)Geschichten weiblicher Freiheitskämpferinnen aus dem Nahen Osten in Zeiten des bewaffneten antikolonialen Kampfes untersucht. Hinterfragen der Konstruktion und Produktion historischer Erzählungen sowie des Potenzials, das Kontamination mit sich bringen kann, um Archivlücken zu überbrücken.
